Our story

From Research Lab to Global Impact

EmotionIntell was founded by Dr Cliff Lansley — a researcher, practitioner, and the behaviour analysis expert behind Discovery Channel's "Faking It" series. What started as academic research into emotional intelligence in the late 1990s has grown into a global training and assessment organisation.

Today, we work with individuals, organisations, and academic institutions across 20+ countries — delivering evidence-based programmes that are grounded in peer-reviewed research and validated by Manchester Metropolitan University.

Our mission is simple: to make the science of emotional intelligence and behaviour analysis accessible, practical, and transformative for everyone.

25 Years of Milestones

A quarter century of research, innovation, and global expansion.

1999

Dr Cliff Lansley begins formal research into emotional intelligence and nonverbal communication at Manchester Metropolitan University.

2004

First SCAnS® (Six Channel Analysis System) workshops delivered to law enforcement and security professionals.

2007

Discovery Channel's "Faking It" series begins. Dr Lansley serves as the resident behaviour analysis expert across 8 series and 80+ cases.

2012

e-Factor® EI Assessment developed and validated through peer-reviewed research. First international training programmes delivered.

2015

Formal partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University. MSc in Applied Emotional Intelligence launches.

2020

Global expansion: training delivered across 20+ countries. Online programme delivery accelerated. 15,000th professional trained.

2025

Rebrand to EmotionIntell. MSc CBCA programme launches. 25,000+ professionals trained worldwide. EQ Accelerator™ coaching programme introduced.
